Sophie Bowe, Apprentice Maintenance Technician

Maintenance Apprentice Sophie Bowe controlling the MSM

Apprenticeship start date: September 2022
Apprenticeship end date: February 2026

Sophie is a shining example of the power of apprenticeships and the incredible potential of young talent. She’s been with us at CORE since September 2022, whilst completing a Maintenance Technician apprenticeship with the Innovation Engineering academy at Lakes College. With the guidance of our CORE team, Sophie is gaining practical experience to prepare her for the workplace.

We asked Sophie about her time as a CORE apprentice:

What is your favourite part of the job?
“Getting hands- on experience with tools and equipment and learning about the safety with things like machinery”.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?
“Being able to learn in a real work environment, helping me develop specific skills that can be applied in different jobs”.

What has surprised you?
“I’ve been surprised by how involved I am in real projects right from the start. Also, I wasn’t expecting there to be such a wide range of roles within CORE, and it’s been inspiring to see so many women in these positions.”

What are your future aspirations after completing your apprenticeship?
“To become a fully qualified engineer”.

We’re proud that Sophie chose CORE as her place to study and grow as an Engineer and know that many other students would benefit from an apprenticeship like hers.
